 | Wednesday, June 14th, 2028: Hot Hitter! Toyota Blisters Hokkaido!
It was a good day for the Riverhawks at Riverhawks Ballpark as they clipped the Hokkaido Bisons 15-3. It was tremendous day for Akihiro Toyota, who went on quite a hitting spree with a 5 for 5 barrage.
The Chiba left fielder told reporters after his big 5-hit performance, "I don't have any buzz words. I'm not 'dialed in' or 'in a zone,' as they say. As far as the hitting goes, I try to keep it simple. I try not to look into it too much. Basically the pitcher throws the ball, I try to pick up the spin, then try to hit it. Today I picked up the spin very well."
A. Toyota tripled in the 2nd, doubled in the 3rd, hit an RBI single in the 4th, hit a solo-shot off S. Ishida in the 6th, walked in the 8th and hit an RBI double in the 9th.
In 2028 Toyota is batting .388 with 19 hits, 2 home runs, 10 RBIs, 7 walks, .474 OBP and has scored 9 runs. He has played in 38 games. |
| Wednesday, June 14th, 2028: Red-Hot Bat! Toyota Collects Cycle!
Akihiro Toyota produced one of the rarest feats in baseball today when he hit for the cycle against the Hokkaido Bisons in the Chiba 15-3 win Riverhawks Ballpark.
Afterward, Toyota acknowledged that his accomplishment was special, but he was more interested in helping the Riverhawks just win some ballgames. At the postgame press conference, he said, "Maybe one day I'll look back on this day with more meaning, but right now I just want to come out tomorrow and put some good swings on the ball, get a few hits and help my club win another game."
On his historic day, he went 5-5 with 3 runs batted in and 4 runs scored -- and also got a spot in the league record books. Maybe one day way down the road he will get out the record book and reminisce about his extra special day in baseball.

The Western League has chosen Willis Vickers of the Chunichi Beatniks as Player of the Week.
What a week Vickers had. He hit .440 (11-25) with 1 home run, 9 RBIs and 5 runs scored.
